Year in Review

For many of us (all? Yeah. Let's go with all of us), 2021 has been a year of fatigue and malaise draped in a cloud of general blah that rarely lifted. People are just so darn tired, feeling worn down to the nub with a tank that's teetering on "E". It's hard to pick up your head and peek around for bright spots.  

But they're there, shining incandescent through the fog.  I hope as the year rounds its final lap that you can take a moment, maybe this very moment, and squint for the bright spots. 

For us, this community of people is that luminous break. The things that we have done together over the past year to build, expand, and serve this community is something we are very proud of, and none of it would be possible without each of you. 

Here are a few of the Greatest Hits 2021 had to offer at Family Dinner:

  • We packed and delivered 30,900 shares which is around 250,000 pounds of locally sourced delicious goodies. 
  • That's around 100,000 treats that have been hidden from family members, partners, and roommates, and scarfed up in secret.
  • We donated over $35,000 of local food to the Chelsea Collaborative, the Woburn Food Pantry, La Colaborativa, and the Portland Food bank to help our neighbors in need.
  • The Team celebrated 4 years of being in business and 1 year of moving into our space in Woburn.
  • After each packing day the crew hangs out for parking lot beers, games, and laughs. We have gleefully consumed over 800 beers in all kinds of weather, telling innumerable bad jokes. Turns out we really like each other. 
  • With the help of all of you, we raised $95,701 in our NuMarket campaign to help launch Family Dinner in Maine where we are up and running with our new GM and wonderful friend Joe. 
  • We added new products, hosted pop-ups, and heeded your desperate cries for an extra add-on treat button. 
  • We have listened to "Truth Hurts" by Lizzo and Toto's "Africa" each 87,146 times. Our musical taste is best described as "confused."
  • We started a wall of all the notes, nice emails, and bits of encouragement you send us. They buttress us when things are hard and tell us to keep our eyes on the prize. We love the love. 

There is so much more that we have missed. While we are looking forward to a New Year, another chapter - this one has given us so much and we are incredibly grateful.

Beef Larb - Larb (usually made with pork or chicken so feel free to sub) is easy to make and super refreshing. The ground toasted rice is an amazing textural element. And using Bibb or other lettuce as a little wrap is an easy way to get from plate to palate.

Beef and Cabbage Stir Fry - Another great weeknight meal that comes together super quickly.
 
Tuna Kofta in Flatbread - Josh Niland is a king of seafood and utilizing as much of the fish as possible. Check this out and do some more digging into this fella.
 
Spicy Tuna Roll - Making sushi is fun and tactile. And tasty.
 
Smashed Sunchokes - For reasons beyond me, sunchokes are also called Jerusalem artichokes. They're a little nuttier and sweeter than fingerling but can be treated in many of the same ways.
