Thinking Ahead

Hey, y'all - Shannon here! Next week, our newsletter will focus on food handling--both in general as well as specifically for vegetables. Before I begin my manifesto on proper greens storage so that they last for weeks (BECAUSE THEY CAN!!!), do you have any specific questions about handling or storage? Or any secrets on extending the lifespan of your groceries that you'd care to share with the class? Shoot an email to hello at sharefamilydinner.com with your questions, tips, and/or tricks!

STILL LOVING YOU... A LATKE.

Over the past year we started doing pop-ups in our Family Dinner store.  We wanted to bring some of our favorite places, makers, and doers right into your home, to have a little fun and enchant your tummies during grey times. They have been the brain child of our teammate Olivia who carefully curates the collections and manages all the madness on the back end. For this week's Pop-Up we wanted to return to one of our favorite restaurants and the place where the Pop-Up Party began, Mamaleh's Delicatessen.

The good folks at Mamaleh's are dishing up some of their most popular and awesome goodies for this limited time event. We're bringing back Latkes, Challah, Assorted Bagels, and house-whipped Cream Cheese to brighten up any meal of the week. We're selfishly offering Egg Salad, too--just because we love it. Round the whole thing out with some pickled Green Tomatoes (that may or may not go in your next Bloody Mary), and you're ready to go!

Our friends at Mamaleh's do everything right, with deft expertise and lots of love. We hope you enjoy every bite of this pop-up and welcome this cozy deli food into your home.  (Know someone who might need a little love from bubbe in their lives? Mamaleh's ships their tasty nosh nationwide.)

Spoiler alert in case you want to maximize your Mamaleh's intake--some of these items will be included as your regular subscription items: Bread and Mezze of the week, and in the Vegetarian category for proteins. (You lucky ducks!) However they are all available for add-ons as well as doubling (or tripling?) up on your favorites:

WHAT'S IN THE BAG?

Delivery dates: Saturday, 7/31 and Tuesday, 8/3

Note: If you order a "Meat and Fish Share" you will receive just the meats listed, not the "dairy" items (i.e., eggs, yogurt, etc). If you order a "Fish and Seafood Share" you will receive the fish listed, not the dairy items.

Add-on Grain of the Week - Granola from Forge
Add-on Bread of the Week - Maple Oat from Forge
Add-on Pastry of the Week - Sticky Buns from A&J King
Add-on Fresh Pasta of the Week - Garlic Scape Linguine from Valicenti
Add-on Cheese of the Week - Triple Creme from Champlain Valley Creamery*
Add-on Mezze of the Week - Basil Hummus from Magic Bites
Add-on Fruit Share - Apricots from Autumn Hill Orchard and Plums from Champlain Orchard**

*Due to logistical issues, Jasper Hill was unable to get us enough Weybridge (which we had listed in the Spoiler Alert email).  The Weybridge has been replaced with this equally incredible Triple Creme.

**Plums are very ripe (and DELICIOUS): eat promptly or store in the fridge upon receipt--I would not recommend leaving them on the counter.

***AVOCADO Update: We found out that at certain points of the year, avocados will randomly decide to be grey on the inside, while not discernible from the outside. For this reason (and for only a few weeks), we will be switching to an Organic Avocado from California in our tropical fruits section.

RECIPES

(from Shannon)

I want to see what you're making! Send pics of your creations and other recipes to recipes at sharefamilydinner.com for us to highlight.

Corn Time - No one got back to me, so I tried it out myself: GRILL YOUR CORN IN THE HUSK. I do not know what I have been doing for the last twenty-something years of my life, but this is by far the easiest and most bestest way to eat corn. (You are welcome!)  Also, since we didn't get a ton of corn last year due to the drought, you will have many chances this year to try it out as I'm getting word that the corn crop this year is in much better supply!

Grilled Peaches - When I tell you this is one of my most favoritest things, you might think, "Shannon, you say that about a lot of things," and you would be right. But it's just so yummy! Top with some Sophia's yogurt and yum!

Summer Squash Pasta Salad - Anyone else thinking of yummy pasta salads right now? Just me? Well, now you, too. Try mixing both fresh veg and grilled to add unique textures and play around with different vinegars, too! Or try using your beets in a pasta salad! (Don't waste those greens, sauté them and add them to the salad!)

Sheet pan Haddock and Swiss Chard - Y'all know my affinity for one pan meals, and here's a really delicious sounding one!

Stone Fruit and Frangipane Toast - Stone Fruit Season is just getting underway and I am fully prepared to eat my body weight in peaches, plums, apricots, and nectarines. How are you using all of the yumminess in the fruit shares??

Trout Bake with Dijon Mustard - Combine your trout with some grilled summer onions and a pasta salad from above, delish!
