"I don't wanna grow up!"

It's Green Garlic season, which always sends a little frisson of joy up my spine. The season is woefully short so we are pleased as punch to be tucking it into the Massachusetts shares this week.

Green Garlic is sometimes referred to as "Adolescent" or "Immature" garlic, both of which evoke delightful imagery for me. I see Adolescent Garlic wandering town with a bad attitude, pack of Malboro Reds rolled up in their sleeve while casting devious glances at your daughter. Immature Garlic, on the other hand, won't stop yammering on about how "sick" the Maroon 5 concert was while trying to put a Whoopie Cushion under the teacher's chair. I digress.

Either way, Green Garlic is simply garlic that hasn't fully matured. Some of the crop can be the result of farmers trying to thin out their garlic stock, some is grown as a crop all its own. Yours comes from the great folks at Kitchen Garden Farm in Sunderland, MA.

When they delivered crate after crate of it this week, the whole space was filled with delicate oniony perfume that had me dreaming of pastas, risotto and frittata. (And pizza, why the hell not. All roads lead to pizza.) Green Garlic is more pungent than a scallion but doesn't pack the punch of Grown Up Garlic. You can slice it thinly and enjoy raw in salads or atop the aforementioned pizza. You can sauté, releasing that pleasing perfume and include in a simple pasta or rice dish. 

The possibilities are endless, we hope you love it.

Fiddleheads! - Sure, longer days and blooming tulips scream spring but, for me, the true harbinger of the season are fiddleheads. These are a wild, foraged product with a short season so keeping it simple feels right. Some great ideas in this Food52 write up but feel free to riff (sauté with some of the beautiful mushrooms from Fruit of the Forest?).

Niçoise Salad - One of my favorite things on earth as it's super tasty, hearty, healthy and can be easily modified with whatever you have on hand. We get you a chunk of the way there with some salad mix, microgreens, fingerling potatoes and eggs in shares this week.
 
Tuna Burgers with Ginger & Cilantro - I mean... not much more to say here. Yum.
 
Cornell Chicken (Grilled Chicken With White Barbecue Sauce) - This is a staple summertime recipe in this house. Easy and incredibly tasty. Bonus: the sauce will give you a bit of leeway if you turn your back a bit too long while the chicken breast is on the grill.
 
Tempeh Stir Fry - Quick and easy weeknight cooking that'll be great for leftovers, too.
